Lanny's notes and observations:

While I am certain of last name spellings and other entries for most of the years, I will need to go back and check on some of the first bits of info I had gathered, for I did not know that this is where I was heading at that time. I still need as of this date, 7/26/97, to check Taylor, Clinton, and Mercer counties, as well as Russell after 1886, Casey after 1876, Adair after 1892 (if available), and there were 3 years of Russell Co. missing: 1876, 77, and 78.

Based upon this info, I firmly believe that the John F. Slavey who married Elizabeth Pittman in Pulaski Co., 6/7/1871, and then remarried to Mary Vickers, 10/15/1876, in Russell Co., is none other than Franklin Slavey. While I don't have the record for 1876, Russell Co., the fact that no other Slavey's are found there leads me to this conclusion. The ages given on the marriage certificates help confirm this theory. Furthermore, based upon similar reasoning, I believe the C.J. Slavey who was the bondsman for John F. Slavey's 1876 Russell Co. marriage is none other than Cannon Jeptha Slavey. While I haven't an age on C.J. to help in confirmation, the fact that we have been unable to locate another Slavey with the initials of C.J. helps give this idea further credence.More speculative is that the Mary mention in 1886 is Mary Vickers Slavey; John F.'s spouse.

Far more speculative is that Cannon Jeptha might be the Jeff(?) mentioned above. If Cannon was known as "Jeppie", it would explain that entry.

Likewise, I will speculate on the middle name of William at this time. Since his middle initial is given in several different types of records as either "C" or "S", then his middle name must have begun with a soft "C" sound'; as an example: Cephus.

This leaves me with three questions:

  1. Why two entries for a George in 1878?
  2. Who is Jesse Slavy in 1885?
  3. Who is Ellen Slavey?
